Rainbow Lodge Sign
The Rainbow Lodge was rebranded by Solace Graphics and Thumbler.net in 2015. When the property changed hands, the time was right to apply a new design to the billboard.
The new brand has been applied to Rainbow Lodge materials, such as menus and decorative displays. Here’s a nice write-up on the Rainbow Lodge’s colorful history featured in San Francisco Chronicle’s travel magazine.
Colfax Brand
A multi-year re-branding project has been underway since 2018 in Colfax, California. The brandmark, designed by Solace Graphics and Thumbler.net, continues to be integrated with sign installations like this back-lit can sign, 40’ above McDonald’s in downtown Colfax, visible from Highway 80.
Colfax Digital Billboards
The new brandmark and key messages can be seen on three digital billboards along Interstate Highway 80. These are programmed for seasonal appropriateness.
This was part of the ongoing project of re-branding the City of Colfax. This effort was done in collaboration with Thumbler.net. key activities and audiences were identified and integrated with other communication for this historic city.
Colfax Round-about Sign
This central roundabout just off Interstate 80 and Highway 174 has a monument sign in its middle. This sign needed to be durable, have lighting, and also be seen from many directions. Solace Graphics found a salvaged railroad track from 1906 and incorporated this into the sign, helping to make a visual connection to this historic railroad town. The steel posts and surrounding pavers add to their durability while still presenting in an attractive manner. The sign face is a reflective digital print applied to aluminum composite sign boards which also lends itself to long-term stability and ease of maintenance.
Colfax Way-Finding Signs
Colfax way-finding signs help to guide those exiting the nearby highway to the core business district. The sign face is a reflective digital print, which is then applied to a steel plasma cut sign blank. The final process is mounting this steel sign onto a powder-coated steel hook. Five of these signs appear in Colfax, California.

Additionally, Colfax is constantly upgrading local signs, like this one at MacDonald’s restaurant, visible from Highway 80 as well.
Crown Tree Service
Solace Graphics designed the brandmark for Crown Tree Service in 2010 and continues to provide new graphics for a wide range of trucks, equipment, hats, and t-shirts for this local 24/7 tree service.
Mi Ranchito
A perfect sign opportunity at the core intersection in historic Colfax now has a back-lit digital print for Mi Ranchito Restaurant. This is a translucent acrylic sign, which faces a back-lit can sign for a high visibility and attractive sign.
Jernigan’s Grill
It was good luck when we found Jernigan’s Grill when they opened in 2012. Solace Graphics designed the brandmark which is seen around town on countless t-shirts and hats from this popular, family-friendly pub and grill. The primary sign is roof-mounted, with a wood-framed digital print and lights for increased night-time visibility.
Empire Shoes
This wood-framed digital print on Medium Density Overlay (MDO) sign board has hung in Downtown Grass Valley for over a decade. The sign was designed to relate to the interiors with consideration to the historic Mill Street setting in Grass Valley. Door signage and windows complete the picture of this jewel-box, premium shoe store.
Greg Klein Attorney at Law
This local law office marquis sign was designed to relate to downtown Nevada City’s Historic District. The wood-framed digital print is mounted on a highly durable MDO sign, which hangs from a steel bracket anchored into the building. This sign is easy to see from a car or sidewalk and enhances the charm of the street.
Sierra Integrated Medicine
An integrated medicine clinic in Reno, Nevada needed not only signs throughout the exterior, but interior graphics. This holistic medical group has a focus on Chinese medicine and wanted this theme to carry through the brand mark and signage, which also needed to relate to the very modern building. Solace Graphics designed the brand and constructed the sign and also provided extensive interior graphics, presenting a consistent theme.
Monkey Cat
Solace Graphics created and installed a business for this popular central Auburn restaurant Brushed aluminum faces on router-cut foam letters were installed with digitally printed reflective eyes onto aluminum composite sign boards.
This highly durable sign just looks better each year as the creeping fig enhances the building face and ties the eyes and sign together.
This is what the new sign looked like when installed in 2008. Note that this sign has needed no maintenance or upkeep in over 15 years due to Solace Graphics’ expert craftsmanship.
Club Car Bar
This local watering hole and great low-key music venue continues to thrive in downtown Auburn, California. This stylized 1930s look and feel blend in nicely with the colorful character of this unique district.
Woodbury Glen Housing Development
This Sacramento County housing development brand mark was part of an extensive series of real estate signs for Standard Pacific Home Builders. Solace Graphics used both brushed and painted aluminum faces on router-cut foam letters, which were then installed with letter posts on the wall.
Burning Man
Longtime Burning Man Camp SwagMart needed a sign to distinguish the camp and help increase nighttime visibility for its many interactive community events. Solace Graphics designed and fabricated a brand and sign.
The metal frame was constructed and then cut vinyl letters were applied onto translucent acrylic, with a backlit sign cabinet. Highly durable, when the camp retired the sign was permanently installed in the Art Garden at the Morris Hotel Reno, Nevada.
Grass Valley Reading Room
Christian Science Reading Rooms have a presence across America. This non-profit facility got an upgrade with vinyl window lettering designed and applied by Solace Graphics.
Nevada City Crystal & Glass
One of the longest-standing gift shops in Nevada City, this painted MDO with vinyl cut letters is hung from steel chains for strong visibility from both pedestrians and traffic.
Nevada City Fur Traders
Still a staple of Downtown Nevada City, The Fur Traders continues to be a premium boutique attracting visitors from near and far. This sign used a variety of media, including digital print, handbuilt molding, and vinyl lettering.
Lefty’s Grill
For over a decade, Lefty’s Grill was a Nevada City mainstay and host to many a fine meal and party. The sign required crane installation over Deer Creek.
Dorado Chocolates
This sign allowed a broad stroke of creativity, with metal mesh scrolls framing brushed aluminum faces. The router-cut foam letters were mounted to gold-painted wire fencing and steel posts, giving a note of prestige to a busy corner in downtown Grass Valley.
